Love shouldn't hurt is an awareness blog made to bring attention to domestic violence. Domestic violence should not happen to anybody -but it does. Domestic violence is a pattern of behavior used to establish power and control over another person through fear and intimidation, often including the threat or use of violence. Love shouldn't hurt gives people access to information on warning signs of unhealthy relationships, further resources, and a safe place to know they're not alone.

For many health care providers, domestic violence is considered a "pre-existing condition" but no victim is to blame for such occurrences. Many victims are scared to ask for help or admit something is wrong yet 1 in 4 women will experience domestic violence during her lifetime. Domestic violence can include physical, emotional, financial and sexual abuse. It's our job to end the silence on domestic violence.

If you know someone whom you think is being abused - a friend, family member, co-worker, client - please consider contacting one of the resources listed to discuss ways to safely help them.
